Provided by AGPWhile speaking to journalists after the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in Helsingborg, Sweden, Antonio Tajani clarified that no formal decision has been made by the United States concerning troop reductions in Italy or elsewhere in Europe.
"We haven't heard anything yet," Tajani said when asked about possible US troop withdrawals from Italy.
He further warned against any scaling back of American military presence on the continent, arguing that Europe should not be viewed as a place for disengagement. "In my opinion, it would be a mistake to reduce the US presence in Europe, which must not mean disengagement from Europe," he added.
His comments come in response to statements from US President Donald Trump, who has reportedly threatened to withdraw American troops stationed across Europe—including Italy, Germany, and Spain—amid escalating tensions linked to the Iran war.
